Banana ice cream, also called nice cream, is our favorite healthy, delicious ice cream because it’s quick and easy to make, with only 1 main ingredient, bananas! You can make so many different flavors with this base.

Today, I’m going to show you how to make 5 different flavors without an ice cream maker. All you need is a high-speed blender! I love using my vitamix blender, it's quick and makes a perfect ice cream consistency. The key is to turn the button to high right away on your blender.

The main key to the best nice cream is very ripe bananas. I can't stress enough how important this step is. Ripe bananas are much sweeter which makes the ice-cream creamier and so much more flavorful without adding extra sugars.

I highly recommend watching the tutorial video above on how to make the ice-cream or nice cream I like to call.

Tips for the best ice-cream.

Use ripe, spotty bananas for best natural sweetness (no added sugar needed).

Peel and freeze the whole banana on parchment paper this prevents sticking to the pan. This method is much easier and quicker to do. Do bunch of them so you have it for future nicecream.

Once frozen for a few hours or overnight, take them out and let them sit on the counter for about 5 minutes and then slice into 1-inch slices instead of large chunks, which can be more difficult to blend. I like to store 4 frozen sliced bananas in individual bags for easy access. Store it in a glass container or zip lock bag.

For best results let the banana thaw for a few minutes (3 to 4 min) before blending. This will allow it to soften a bit and become easier to blend without any added water.

If you're using frozen bananas straight from the freezer you could add 1 Tbsp at a time of water to encourage blending if using a high speed blender. But be careful with this method as it’s the fastest way to get runny ice cream.

To get the texture of true ice cream vs. soft serve, simply spread into a loaf pan or tupperware and freeze for 2 hours. Then scoop with an ice cream scoop. If it's too firm, let thaw for 15-30 minutes.

Direction:

  1. Put all the ingredients in the blender, start with 1 tbsp of water if needed. Turn the high-speed blender to high and use the temper to push it down until you get creamy texture. It will take about 30 seconds to 1 minute. Don't over process as it will turn into soft serve or too runny. Serve immediately or store in the freezer in the tupperware if you want more of the true ice cream texture.
